Futuring at Bötzow

In April 2013, Bötzow opened its doors for the colourful “Spring Awakening” event. On guided tours, visitors were able to explore not only the brewery buildings above ground, but also the subterranean cellar complex – a 5,000 m² microcosm that once housed stables, cold stores and storage rooms. The event also marked the opening of the “FUTURING” exhibition by artists Eva and Adele. This was also the first ever exhibition here to include a work of art developed specifically for the site: the word “Futuring”, in enormous pink letters, now shining down from the 43 m high chimney of the old brewery.

HGN: The future has already arrived at Bötzow Berlin – and can be seen for miles around. The neologism coined by the artist duo EVA & ADELE now shines down from the chimney in neon pink: FUTURING. I first encountered this key word in EVA & ADELE’s work when I visited their studio in Berlin. It’s the framework within which they create and develop their whole artwork and life’s work. The parallels with Bötzow Berlin – and with my company, Ottobock – could not be clearer. We also transcend borders as we strike out into the future; and we are also constantly developing new, communicative concepts for living and working. And then there’s another aspect: we want art at Bötzow to radiate out into the public sphere. It’s a central theme as we develop the site, and we want it to be freely accessible to every visitor. I’m delighted that EVA & ADELE’s FUTURING concept will be on permanent display at Bötzow Berlin and that we have been able to bring their art cosmos, the “House of Futuring” into our studio building as the core element of their exhibition.
